Thor Penthouses - Techniques

Technology is used to integrate everything from surveying to material specification, using initial drawings to offer unparalleled speed and benefits. Every project brief begins with an analysis to define absolutes such as access, existing house construction type, existing house style, number of existing tenants, neighborhood, security issues etc. The analysis determines what system to use when constructing the Penthouses and builds an image of the Development and what method would give the highest benefits in terms of cost, time, disturbance and comfort. This is then presented in a consultation with the Freeholder.

We can utilize any one of the three acceptable construction methods: Field Factory, Volumetric and Flat Panel.

  • Field Factory:
Occasionally, the only way to build is to open a partial manufacturing plant on top of the roof itself. We have had to utilize this method on a number of occasions, despite its added complication in comparison to other build method, but always achieved the desired results at cost and in time.
  • Volumetric Construction:
Our CAD/ CAM systems allows for full virtual tours of our Penthouse units before built, this method minimizes costly last minute changes and allow us to pre-construct up to 80% of the units in our factories, before shipping these to site and lifting the units in place. Clearly the fastest way of any build that also minimizes disturbances for existing tenants.
  • Flat Panel Construction:
We finish the floor, walls and roof in the factory, take them apart and transport these flat against each other to site. This method, albeit not as fast as the Volumetric method, allows for more economic transport runs and also a speedy assembly.
